It has already been a terrible start to the Premier League season for my buddy Shane Kersh and I, he supports Manchester United and I’m a Spurs fan, and we are not happy bunnies. Normally the conversations which I have with Shane revolve around with team will finish highest, who will beat who and which of our players will do best, sadly this season we have been left to discuss which manager will be out first, and we have thrown Unai Emery of Arsenal into the debate as well. Spurs, United and Arsenal have been terrible so far and sit in the middle of the table, so who will go first?
Unai Emery
The Arsenal fans were borderline vitriolic when they wanted legendary coach Arsene Wenger gone, and when they finally got what they wanted it was Unai Emery who stepped into the hotseat. Emery didn’t enamor himself to the Arsenal fans from the outset and his treatment of Mesut Ozil and some bizarre team selections caused stirrings amongst the fans early on. This season Arsenal have won just 2 of their 11 games played, and people are now calling for his head. Interestingly both Shane and I agree that he will be the next manager out, perhaps as early as this upcoming international break.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
Whilst Shane wants Ole Gunnar Solskjaer out, he concedes that Emery is much closer to the exit than the Norwegian. It seems like years ago that Ole riled up his United team and went on an 11 win unbeaten run, and after a horrific start to the season United sit in 14th position with a lowly 13 points. The issue with United is that they just don’t seem to have improved since last year, nothing they do seems cohesive and there is a real lack of quality on the pitch, despite the brilliant players which they have. United backed Solksjaer in the transfer window and for that reason he is likely to stay for a little while longer.
Mauricio Pochettino
As a Spurs fan I am massively grateful for what Pochettino has done for us and to take us to the Champions League final was just incredible. I however am not like most Spurs fans and I do not want to see the manager go. There are some tricky situations to get through here, getting the new boys fit, and dealing with the wantaways in Alderweireld, Vertonghen and Eriksen. I believe however that this season can be written off already and Spurs have to finish in a respectable position, do well in the FA Cup and focus everything on 2020/21, with Pochettino in charge. Something has to change as we cannot continue like this, but I don’t think that the change should be getting the manager out, better to bring in fresh blood in January and put those players who want to leave in exile.
Who do you think goes first?
