If you have made the decision to visit Hawaii for the first time, congratulations! You are now well on your way to seeing one of the most beautiful states in the U.S. Now that you have made the decision, it is time to start researching what to do, where to go, and how to best enjoy yourself on the Islands. We have a few tips for you to utilize before and during your trip!
Decide which island fits your vibes
Ok, we know that you haven’t been there yet, so you aren’t sure which one is going to fit your vibe fully, but you are able to get a good idea of what they have to offer by seeking out information about them. If you want major tourist sites, Oahu is for you. If you want to visit the natural and garden island, Kauai has your name on it. If you want a good mix of both of those, Maui is the island for you! Or if you want classic Hawaiian culture and traditions, you can take yourself to the big island. Though we can’t make this decision for you, we encourage you to see which one will be best for your wants and needs!
Know your goals
Speaking of your wants and needs, what are your goals for this vacation? Are you hoping to lounge by the pool, see a volcano, go snorkeling, blow glass, or maybe you just want to drink from a coconut you buy from a local on the side of the road? Whatever it is you want to do, be sure you make a solid plan before you go. Having things mapped out and ready to be conquered will be beneficial because once you get on Hawaiian time, it may be hard to make a schedule.
Let yourself relax
There are so many Hawaii hotels and resorts to choose from, but it is going to be vital to pick one that will provide you with what you need to really relax when you are there. Part of being on the Islands, is adapting to the way the locals live. That means having no worries, living with the spirit of Aloha, and being in the moment. It is going to be hard to do those things if you don’t let yourself relax!
Don’t overpack
Yes, we know you are going to want to bring everything you think you need to have a good time, but the thing about Hawaii is, even for the most adventurous of activities, you will only really need your bathing suit, cover up, and slippers (that’s what the locals call sandals). So, try your best not to overpack! This will also leave a lot more room for the souvenirs you are bound to bring home for you and your loved ones.
Enjoy local cuisine
We are sure it isn’t going to be easy to stray from the foods you know and love, but this one that you have to do your best to try to achieve when in Hawaii. Their fresh and local seafood is something that cannot be topped and is definitely worth going out of your comfort zone for. Also, enjoying lunch from a food truck run by locals is something you should add to your list. It will give you a taste of authentic Hawaiian cuisine and culture.
See historic sites
Historic sites in Hawaii can be geographical or man-made structures, so it is important to see both varieties. Check out their local schools, museums, and city buildings to be able to get a full appreciation for their lifestyle and culture.
No matter which island you travel to, you are bound to be in awe of its beauty. We hope you have a great time seeing the sights, eating the food, and fully immersing yourself in the Hawaiian culture! Aloha!
