Founded by the Society of American Magicians, World Magic Day began in 1938. It took over what had been known as ‘Houdini Day’ since the famous magician Harry Houdini passed away on October 31st in 1926. To mark the occasion, charitable Society members set up magic shows in hospitals, schools and nursing homes, to bring magic to the lives of those not usually fortunate enough to witness such entertainment.
The tradition for free shows continues to this day. However, you’ll find plenty of ways other than attending a magic show to celebrate World Magic Day 2019.
